The ruin of the former Saxon Minister of Finance August von Behr (dating from 1827), which had not been occupied for 30 years, was protected from further decay and was rehabilitated at great expense. A conscious treatment of the origins was the main issue: Preservation of the existing materials such as sandstone, brick, plaster and slate. A black/white colour concept supported the historic details. Both historic details such as rosettes as a negative relief in the exposed concrete ceiling and modern materials form interesting contrasts. Requirements of the Office of Historical Monuments existing since 1993 were taken into account. According to the requirements for monument preservation, the application had to comply with the historic plaster surfaces. After the sampling of several plaster specimen, a decision was made on the Baumit multiFine RK 70 N. Thus, a seamless transition to sandstone was achieved with respect to grains and colour reproduction. Based on old examples, plaster bands and pilaster strips were to be reproduced; this was also achieved by the application and trimming or pulling on the old stock and by new construction. Archs and columns were restored according to historical examples. Sandstone walls, columns and plinth claddings were properly treated; the attachment work as well the jointings were made with natural stone supplementary mortar or natural stone in grain and colour.
